Jacquot de Nantes Year: 1991 Country: France Actors and Actresses: Marie-Sidonie Benoist, Clément Delaroche, Laurent Monnier, Philippe Maron, Edouard Joubeaud, Fanny Lebreton, Julien Mitard, Rody Averty, Hélène Pors, Jérémie Bader Review: Agnes Varda's 1991 tribute to her late husband, Jacques Demy--Varda's fellow pioneer in the French New Wave movement of the 1950s and early 1960s--is a moving combination of reenacted scenes from Demy's fanciful childhood, clips from his movies (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Donkey Skin), and filmed interviews with him shortly before he passed away. Varda's efforts lead to a touching and evocative portrait of a man who saw, even as a boy, no distinction between his imagination and the more magical traditions of theater and film. The cast of unknown actors portraying Demy and other people in reconstructions of his memories are very good, and the interesting tension between the function of these scenes as storytelling and their inclusion in Varda's larger biographical essay instantly recalls the intensely personal nature of Demy's own lush, ambitious experiments behind the camera. Du är inte klok, Madicken Year: 1979 Country: Sweden Actors and Actresses: Jonna Liljendahl, Liv Alsterlund, Kerstin Hansson, Cecilia Orlando-Willberg Tags: bathing girl Review: This was made from a mini-series. A girl (Jonna Liljendahl) of about nine years of age is the focus. Watch her as she hangs out with her friends, tries to understand boys, gets in trouble with her parents, and a lot more. Thoroughly charming as well as entertaining. - CVMC Movie added at: 31.08.2013 |

Roula Year: 1995 Country: Germany Actors and Actresses: Tina Hamperl, Felicitas Grimm-Luck, Julia Burger, Rosa Greve Review: A successful author of children's books falls in love with a woman whose very special relationship to her father ends in a horrible nightmare dramatically changing the lives of all persons involved. Leon, an author of children's books, and his eleven-year old daughter Tanja come to Denmark for their holidays. Here, Leon hopes to forget the trauma haunting him since his wife died in a car accident two years ago and keeping him from writing. But the new surrounding does not free him from his burden - until he makes the acquaintance of Roula, a young woman who runs the vacation house rental agency. Leon is captured not so much by her physical attraction, but by the secret that seems to cast a shadow over her life - and by the scars that they share. Roula lives alone with her father in an isolated house. When Leon understands the true character of their relationship, it is already too late - he can no longer stop the avalanche of events triggered off by him. The seemingly intact and harmonious world breaks apart in as much a consistent as cruel manner, leaving the protagonists to pay a high price for their newly achieved freedom. Dobro pozhalovat, ili Postoronnim vkhod vospreshchen Year: 1964 Country: Soviet Union Actors and Actresses: Viktor Kosykh, Boris Demb, Sergei Shappu, Aleksandr Zhiveynov, Sergei Kokoryov, Vyacheslav Tsaryov, Igor Kryukov, Yuri Bondarenko, Tatyana Prokhorova, Aleksandr Bajkov Review: The movie is not only a very funny comedy with excellent children and adult actors, but a perfect parody of Soviet life, of the relationship between society and Soviet power. The leader of the camp is so stupid and suspicious, that he turns people one by one to "resistance fighters", living in "illegality". The ordinary "citizens" of the camp don't know who is the informer, but they do their best to help the persecuted ones. In the beginning of the 1960's, Khrushtchev suddenly let to publish one of Solzhenitsyn's books, and to make movies like this -- and then the short springtime was over, and the bold masterpieces like these were buried for the next 25 years under the gigantic heap of dull books and films.
