In a clear-eyed fashion that would have been impossible in a film made by "outsiders", the plot details the conflict between native-born Israelis and the newly arrived European refugees. The various fears and prejudices of the adults are passed along to their children, upon whom director Hans Moshenson concentrates. Largely comprised of nonprofessionals, the teenaged protagonists and antagonists are remarkable in their sincerity and conviction.  The Fool KillerYear: 1965 Country: Mexico, USA Actors and Actresses: Edward Albert Tags: boy skinny dip Review: 12-year-old George Mellish, tired of beatings for both real and fancied misdeeds at the hands of his foster parents,runs away from home by hopping a freight train and lands somewhere east of the Mississippi River. The first person he meets is Dirty Jim Helliman (Henry Hull)who lives in a fantastically filthy hovel and with whom George feels a kindred spirit, both having "suffered" at the hands of a clean woman. It is (really dirty) Dirty Jim that tells George of the mythical, eight-foot bogey man called "The Fool Killer." George gets sick and Dirty Jim takes him to town where Mrs.Ova Faversham (Charlotte Jones)takes charge of the feverish boy. When Blessing Angeline (Sindee Ann Richards), Mrs. Faversham's 10-year-old daughter, tells George that her mother intends to return him to his foster parents, George hits the road again. He meets Milo Bogardus (Anthony Perkins), a young Civil War veteran, who has been robbed of his memory by a war wound, and is as lost in his own way as George. THey come upon a camp meeting, where the fanatical Reverend Spotts is conducting a revivalist meeting and during the religious frenzy, George blacks out. He comes to and is alone, and is unaware that the Reverend has been murdered, and starts in his search to find Milo. He finds a home with the Dodds (Dana Elcar and Salome Jens), small town store keepers. When, at supper, Dodds makes mention of the murder of the Reverend Spotts, George blurts out that "The Fool Killer done it" and tells them the legend as told to him by Dirty Jim. That evening, while George lies in bed, a shadow appears at his window. The year is 1948 during the reverberations of the war; the trial of war criminals, the rebuilding of war-torn Europe and the economic and cultural invasion by the USA. Admit all this turmoil Kamilla and Svein (age 7) grow up. Kamilla is the daughter of a bankrupt factory owner making his living as a shoemaker and with dreams of a prosperous new life in North America. Svein is a working-class child. Together they experience homes breaking up and violence, child cruelty and social and emotional humiliation. Together they develop the love and solidarity lacking in both homes. Without power and resources they fight a losing battle against the nonchaland coldness, indifference and selfishness of the adults. That is the loneliness of the child, dealing with incomprehension in the family, in school. The author like experienced psychologist is showing the differences in concepts and valuation of the world by adults and children. For Ann's mother the heavy drinking of her husband is nothing more than inconvenient indisposition. However for the girl it is the unequivocal symptom of the incurable disease so something horrible, something she is even frightened of thinking.  The Singing NunYear: 1966 Country: USA Actors and Actresses: Ricky Cordell Review: Young and inexperienced Sister Ann has just arrived at her next posting at Samaritan House, a Dominican order located in a disreputable neighborhood of Ghent, Belgium. Sister Ann is enthusiastic, progressive but naive, all which irks one of the senior sisters, Sister Cluny, especially the fact that Sister Ann has a prized material possession, a guitar she's named Adele. Sister Ann considers Adele and her music to be her friends. Contrary to Sister Cluny, the Mother Prioress believes Sister Ann will be a welcome addition to their order. This posting is to be the training ground for Sister Ann and others to become missionaries in Africa. Sister Ann's path takes a detour when the order's Father Clementi hears Sister Ann sing. He believes Sister Ann should record her music and as a favor asks Robert Gerarde of Primavera Records for recording time. Unknown at the time the request is made, Robert and Sister Ann are old friends who attended the Paris Conservatory of Music together five years earlier before she became a nun. Robert believes Sister Ann could be a recording sensation, keeping true to her style of music of religious based folk songs. As Sister Ann becomes more famous, which includes an appearance on the Toast of the Town (1948), Sister Ann increasingly wonders if she truly is doing the work of God, as she admits she enjoys the adulation of being a celebrity and despite the financial gain to the church.
