Naerata ometi Year: 1985 Country: Soviet Union Actors and Actresses: Kerttu Aaving Review: The setting for this grim drama is a home for children of alcoholics, criminals, or emotionally impaired parents who do not want their children and cannot take care of them anyway. Mixed in with the traumatized teens at this institution are also orphans who almost seem to have it better. Mari (Monika Jarv) comes to the home after her drunken father throws her out of the house. She escapes immediately but then is forced back into the institution when she has a run-in with a group of street toughs. The kids in the institution give her a hard time and just when she is trying to survive their harrassment, she discovers that Robi (Hendrik Toompers), one of the teens who attacked her, is also a resident, and admired by the others because he antagonizes the teachers. Just as Mari's difficulties reach a climax, Robi steps in to help her, and from that moment onward, a friendship begins, albeit one with a very uncertain future. - Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide Movie added at: 31.08.2013 |

At Play in the Fields of the Lord Year: 1991 Country: USA, Brazil Actors and Actresses: Niilo Kivirinta, Mutah Pataxo Tags: boy skinny dip Review: Martin and Hazel Quarrier are small-town fundamentalist missionaries sent to the jungles of South America to convert the Indians. Their remote mission was previously run by the Catholics, before the natives murdered them all. They are sent by the pompous Leslie Huben, who runs the missionary effort in the area but who seems more concerned about competing with his Catholic 'rivals' than in the Indians themselves. Hazel is terrified of the Indians while Martin is fascinated. Soon American pilot Lewis Moon joins the Indian tribe but is attracted by Leslie's young wife, Andy. Can the interaction of these characters and cultures, and the advancing bulldozers of civilization, avoid disaster? - IMDb Movie added at: 31.08.2013 |

Attention une femme peut en cacher une autre! Year: 1983 Country: France Actors and Actresses: Franck Beaujour, Rachid Ferrache, Ingrid Lurienne, Vincent Barazzoni Tags: bathing boy Review: This French style charming comedy depicts a spirited nurse (a surgeon's assistant in Paris, nicely played by Miou-Miou) who leads two lives. One is with her significant other in the countryside of Normandy, and the other is with her estranged husband in Paris. In Paris, the nurse, surgeon, husband and child all lead the life of sophisticates. Alice, the nurse, has been traveling to Normandy, where for four days every week she works at a salt water cure, and shares her life with Vincent, a teacher, and his two children. After a decade of separation, she is by chance reunited in Paris with her husband, Philippe, and her 10 year old son, Simon. She then carries on a double life since she has not divorced the husband and thus is not free to marry Vincent. The two "husbands" and families do not know of each other until a chance meeting, which provokes periods of much rivalry, jealousy, hurt and laughter. - Amazon.com Movie added at: 31.08.2013 |

El Pacto Year: 1976 Country: Mexico Actors and Actresses: Iyali Ballardo, Paris Ballardo Review: When they were children, Sergio and Teresa, brother and sister, made a promise to never leave each other. They grow up, and their unusual love becomes stronger. But Teresa has inherited the mental disease that led her mother to suicide. She only wants to live with her brother in her own world, and becomes violent against the rest of people. 'El pacto' (which means 'The pact') is an intense Mexican melodrama, with many of its typical excesses, but also with interesting psychoanalitical elements. Sergio Véjar (camera operator in some Luis Buñuel's most popular films) writes and directs this strange story "based on true facts" with some reminiscences of Buñuel's melodramas. - V. Oy, vy, gusi... Year: 1991 Country: Soviet Union Actors and Actresses: Marina Kuznetsova, Yura Mitin, Vanya Kolesnikov, Sasha Kolesnikov Tags: bathing girl Review: Director Lidia Bobrova wanted to tell the astonishingly bleak story of her brothers' lives and kept resubmitting this movie project to the state film boards for approval. Finally, after ten years, she was allowed to shoot it. The backbone of the story is the daily life of brother Mitka, whose health is so poor he is not allowed to work. Instead, his wife Raya supports them as a seamstress, despite her heart condition. Nearby lives brother Petka, another impecunious man, who is amusingly tiny when compared to his strong, solid wife: she earns their living as a nurse in a retirement home. Brother Sanya has been in a prison camp for committing murder, and he is only now returning home to join his other brothers. - Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide Movie added at: 31.08.2013 |
